Old Norse sagas, history, and mythology tell of shield maidens, women trained in the art of combat and known for courage and skill in battle. Often depicted wearing armor and carrying shields, they were respected as fierce warriors. The most famous shield maiden is likely Lagertha, who evidently fought alongside the Viking hero, Ragnar Lothbrok.

The Shield Maiden is a natural, food-based soap which honors those brave Norse and Viking warrior women. Just as the shield maidens protected themselves and others, this bold and beautiful soap protects and nourishes the skin.

Not only will it make you feel great, but it also looks fantastic, with vibrant streaks of blood red and rich black evoking the spirit of the battlefield. We created these striking colors using ethical mica and activated charcoal.

• Tart and tangy lingonberries symbolize protection, vitality, endurance, and survival. Additionally, in Scandinavian folklore they are said to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.
• Characterized by a fresh, resinous, piney fragrance, balsam is a symbol of hope and healing. Additionally, in ancient times balsam oil was an ingredient in sacred anointing oils.
• Cinnamon and clove exude a rich, warm, spicy scent which is both invigorating and comforting. They are each said to have a slew of magical properties, including purification, protection, and increased spiritual awareness.

Made in small batches. Every batch varies in appearance, but each bar is approximately 5.5 oz and 3 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 1 inch deep. It is perfect for any and all skin types. Our soaps last the average person 4-8 weeks, depending on use and storage.
